“Yes, they haunt me, but not for one moment did I agonise over what I did or ordered. It was all in a day’s work, and it was necessary.”
A twisting and darkly comic thriller set in Belfast at the height of the Troubles.
Written by Tim Edge
Directed by Ben Kavanagh

Tracing the fortunes of Niamh Ryan played by Evanna Lynch (Harry Potter, Disco Pigs), we follow Niamh’s journey from naïve new recruit to battle hardened operative, drawn into the conflict as part of a divided family. In a community where secrecy and treachery are commonplace and no one is quite who they seem to be, the show explores the effects of extremism on families and young people.

Set in a period of heightened tensions in Northern Ireland and as the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement approaches, Under the Black Rock serves as a timely warning from history.

Content Warnings: Under the Black Rock is set in Belfast during the Troubles and contains language and attitudes common at that time. The play also includes suicide references and brief scenes of torture, terrorism and domestic violence.
