The Definitive Guide to Christmas Markets in London 2019

Katie Da Cunha Lewin

‘Last Christmas’ is on repeat in the office, and it's threatening to snow: the Christmas season is in full swing! We’ve had a look through the markets across London to find the best winter festivals, markets and events.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
It’s the biggest, it’s the loudest, it’s Christmas on steroids: it’s Winter Wonderland. In the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, there are tons of wintery things to do: from ice skating to watching one of several family shows with more magic than you can shake a stick at. But one of the main attractions is their German Christmas market which boasts more than 200 cute stalls selling food, drinks and gifts. Grab a gluhwein and enjoy the Christmas: Xtreme Version experience.

Christmas by the River
Want rustic? You've got it. Over 70 adorable wooden cabins will be lining the river Thames this year to sate all your Christmas shopping needs. Based on traditional German Christmas markets, you'll get a great view of the London skyline, including Tower Bridge, the Tower of London and the City while you shop. And shopping's not all there is to do here: get crafty with some free craft workshops, hum along to Christmassy music performances or even visit The Scoop, a pop-up ski-themed bar.
Bohemia Place Christmas Market
Head east for this mini-winter wonderland, handily located opposite Hackney Central station. Bohemia Place Christmas Market will be serving up tasty treats from ABQ London and amazing gifts from local traders and makers - think fluffy handmade slippers and colourful art prints. There will also be a grotto for little'uns, and the market is usually pretty conscious about giving back to the community too, last year hosting a clothes bank drop for the homeless as well as facilities for donations to a local soup kitchen - now that's the Christmas spirit.

Hampton Court Palace Festive Fayre
For something to tickle the tastebuds, head a little further afield to Hampton Court Palace's old-timey yuletide market. Sure to make a food lover's mouth water, the grounds of the palace will be merry with stalls of artisan food and drink, foodie gifts for loved ones and seasonal cookery demos. Eat, drink, shop and be merry, all whilst soaking up the atmosphere and spirit of the season, with sing-along festive music on the Courtyard Bandstand. And what's more, you can explore the castle afterwards.

London's Annual Zero Waste Christmas Market
This is a Christmas market with a difference: in a year where 70% of Brits are looking to reduce their environmental impact, this Christmas market will be a place to pick up some totally guilt-free gifts. Traders at this market will be avoiding plastic and unnecessary packaging and will be using recycled or eco-friendly materials. Plus for every 10 tickets sold, they're planting a tree! You've got to pay a few quid to enter the market, but once inside you'll have access to all the fantastic stalls, mulled wine stations and even glitter face painting.
