Bounce Ping-Pong: The perfect recipe for a fun evening out

14 May 2019 | London Calling

Bounce has introduced a new menu, and we bet you five ping-pong balls you’re going to love it.

Bounce have been around since 2012, and the Old Street venue since 2015, and are already well-known and well-loved for being the best place to chuck a few balls around once you’ve reached the age that the Kidzmania lady will politely ask you to step out of the ball pit, please, ma’am, because you’re scaring the children.

Bounce aren’t just ping-pong purveyors, however. In all of their venues you’ll be able to get food and cocktails, too, as well as soak up the good vibes and good tunes. We headed down to the Old Street venue to test out their mouth-watering new menu – and to get competitive over a few games of ping-pong, of course.

We were not disappointed. Bounce are definitely not scrimping on the menu here. This is perfect fuel for a vigorous game or ten of table tennis: carb heavy and indulgent but with a lot of oomph from delicious seasonings and garnishes.

We enjoyed pizzas, dough balls and popcorn prawns as we battled our frustrations ou ton the ping-pong table. Vegetarians are very well-catered for here: as well as our super-tasty bbq chicken pizza with fior di latte mozzarella and roasted red pepper, the veggies amongst us enjoyed a sophisticated mushroom pizza with sun blushed tomato and truffle oil – oo-er.

The dough balls were the perfect accompaniment to this, also coming with a meat (smoked ham and gorgonzola) and veggie option (garlic and mozzarella). The southern-fried popcorn prawns were a real standout though – the chilli and lime mayo accompanying them was drool-worthy. You’ll love snacking on these in between rounds – just make sure you don’t accidentally pop a ping-pong ball in your mouth instead. Even the chips are a lil bit fancy here. Triple cooked, obvs, served with aioli, Bloody Mary ketchup and Bourbon BBQ sauce.

The food is matched perfectly with the atmosphere – unpretentious and doesn’t take itself too seriously, so you can focus on enjoying yourself. It’s the perfect recipe for a fun evening out. My only regret is that we didn’t go for one of the giant sharing buckets of margarita – now that’s a ping-pong party.

Bounce has locations in Old Street and Farringdon
