London’s Most Delicious Food in March

2 March 2017 | Livvi Alderson-Tuck

The days are longer, the air is warmer and the birds are singing. Yes, spring is finally on its way! And with it comes a plethora of tasty new openings and pop ups, guaranteed to put a spring in your step. London Calling reveals the capital’s best foodie spots for March.

For all of you cheese fans out there, Camden has answered your prayers by providing street food favourite, The Cheese Truck, with a permanent home. Since 2013, the bright yellow truck has been delighting lactose-lovers with what are widely recognised as the best grilled cheese sandwiches in town at music festivals and Maltby Street Market. Now, they have found some bricks and mortar in Camden Stables for The Cheese Bar, which will open its doors in March. The Cheese Bar will serve the coveted grilled cheeses alongside some new dishes; the Mexican-inspired cheese fondue, Queso Fundido and the Canadian inspired breakfast dish, Poutine; cheese curds, bacon gravy and caramelised pancetta topped with a fried egg. However, while these dishes celebrate the world’s love for cheese, The Cheese Bar will be championing locally sourced products, focusing on cheese makers within the UK, and particularly within London.

Whilst The Cheese Bar is showcasing the best our country has to offer, a new Stoke Newington restaurant is bringing the world’s finest to the Big Smoke. L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele has opened its first venture outside of its 147-year old restaurant in Naples, which is known as the region’s best pizza hotspot. And as Naples is the home of pizza, it is safe to say this could be the best pizza in the world, right here in Stoke Newington! The restaurant only serves two types of pizza- Margherita and Marinara. However, do not let the simplicity of the menu fool you- these pizzas are seriously delicious with a crispy, thin base, rich tomato sauce and creamy, gooey cheese. Hey, if it is good enough for Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love, it’s good enough for us!

If pizza is your thing, you’re really in for a treat in March. Opening in West Hampstead is Bobby Fitzpatrick, a 70’s inspired pizza and cocktails bar. The cocktail menu is heavily inspired by Mr Fitzpatrick’s travels around the Caribbean, with Pina Colada and Caribbean rum cocktails on the drinks list. Kick back and enjoy some 70’s tunes within the charming retro interior, sipping a Caribbean rum cocktail and eating slices of delicious American pizza.

London has always offered an impressive range of amazing take-aways, but newly opened Camile Thai in Tooting is turning take-away food on its head, by providing healthy and nutritious options, with a focus on fresh, locally sourced, quality ingredients. Expect all the usual beautiful flavours of Thai cuisine, but with dishes less than 600 calories, your Saturday night take away can now be guilt free. Choose from a selection of Pad Thais, ramens, crispy pork belly and Camile’s signature Thai rolls, filled with teriyaki chicken and crunchy vegetables in thin, delicate rice noodle.

Calorie counting not really your vibe? Well then look no further, as Wardour Street’s newest bar, Dirty Harry’s, has not one, but two junk food experts taking over its kitchen. Burger & Beyond and Other Side Fried will be serving up their beastly burgers daily. From Burger & Beyond, you can chomp down on their Hot Mess burger with a jalapeno kick, or The Cliff which teams Monterey Jack cheese with tarragon mayo.  Not to be outdone, Other Fried Side’s chicken burgers will also be causing mouths to drool, such as the Honey Butter Burger, with fried chicken, smoked honey butter, bacon and pickles. Can’t decide? Well, don’t panic, as Dirty Harry’s will be unveiling an exclusive collaborative burger between the two, which combines a beef patty, fried chicken, deep fried chicken skin and all the best toppings from their respective menus.  Prepare yourself for some serious meat sweats.

It’s only March, and summer may still feel light-years away, but dining alfresco is possible at the Coppa Club Igloos at London Bridge. These cute little igloos, which boast glorious views of London Bridge, were a firm favourite over the festive period, but due to such high demand, Coppa have extended their residency until the end of March. With overhead heaters, cosy blankets and your own speakers, these igloos are perfect for a romantic dinner or drinks with friends. With Mediterranean style dishes such as sea trout with pine nuts, rocket and fennel or lemon and rosemary corn fed chicken on offer, make sure you book in before the igloos melt at the end of the month.
