Go See This contributor Rianna de Bono-Smith shares with us the upcoming releases she’s most excited about this year.

2018 is a year filled with many eagerly anticipated releases. There’s the chance to relive childhood dreams with long-awaited sequels and prequels. There’s superhero films, hilarious comedies, action-packed adventures and fantastic animation hitting the big screen. No matter where your interests lie, there’s something for everyone.

To kick the excitement off, Incredibles 2 is being released in June. Fans have been waiting 14 years to see more of Dash, Violet and Jack-Jack. On top of this, the whole year is jam-packed with movies that play a role in a big franchise, including films such as Deadpool 2, Avengers: Infinity War, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Ocean’s 8 and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. I am eager to see the next installment to Deadpool and hope it will break the sequel stereotype. The film focuses on Deadpool’s battle against the evil Cable while cracking his usual jokes and innuendos. These films are definitely aimed at an older audience and give us a fresh look at the superhero genre.

Everyone’s eyes are on the Marvel cinematic universe as The Avengers join forces with unlikely friends for the third part of the franchise, Avengers: Infinity War. This new release is said to be the ultimate battle between good and evil, as The Avengers fight their most powerful enemy – Thanos. Later in the year, we will also be treated to Venom. This is a spin-off from the Spider-Man films that will star Tom Hardy in the lead role.

I am most looking forward to films such as Tag which is a comedy featuring an all-star cast. A small group of friends who have known each other since school take part in an annual game of tag that leads to hilarious adventures. What makes it that much funnier is the fact it is based on a true story. I am also looking forward to seeing the film Ocean’s 8 which is taking the original franchise and making it a more women-oriented brand. The cast is phenomenal with names such as Rihanna, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Sarah Paulson starring in the film. Debbie Ocean, criminal mastermind, followed by seven women attempt to pull off their biggest stunt at the annual Met Gala in New York. They aim to get a necklace that is a whopping $150 million. This film is definitely one to watch and I am so excited to see all these powerful women on screen.

There are also films for the family to enjoy like Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation which features an amazing voice cast including Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez and Andy Samberg. We follow the monsters on their vacation on-board a cruise specially designed for monsters (or so they think). We also have Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, which follows a pregnant Sophie as she finds out more about her mother’s journey dealing with her own pregnancy. It was also revealed in the trailer that we will have an appearance from the icon that is, Cher. I am so excited for these films as their prequels were so successful and fun for all ages. We also have Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald to look forward to, which is a part of the Harry Potter universe and is set long before Harry arrives at Hogwarts. This sequel brings us the young Albus Dumbledore, played by Jude Law, joining Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his quest to stop Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) and his dastardly plan to rule over all beings.

Overall, this year possesses the potential for some great cinematic releases for all the family. I for one cannot wait to see what’s in store.
