Interview with #WaterlooRomeo

16 January 2014 | Rebecca White

"I’m tall and I can help change light bulbs..."

He is the landscaper with a whole load of love to give who got sick of sitting on his laurels and took matters of the heart into his own hands. The now infamous #WaterlooRomeo caught the attention of the press and activity based dating website DoingSomething.com when he was spotted yielding a sign asking for a ‘hot brunette’ to get in touch. Whether this is a successful reinvention of an attraction technique it remains to be seen but it sounds like he’s having a ball!

London Calling: How would you rate the success of your recent dating campaign?

#WaterlooRomeo: Mental but great fun. Who knows if I am going to meet 'the one' yet, but I am going to have fun meeting a whole load of people who I wouldn't have done previously.

LC: It’s quite a drastic measure to take, what other methods have failed you?

#WR: Where do I start???? Speed dating, numerous times (including doggy speed dating!) I went on a singles skiing holiday, plus a Ceroc dancing weekender! I’ve tried Singles Walks, various run of the mill dating sites such as Match.com, single solution and muddy matches. Once I even did a 'take me out' style game at a fair!

LC: Why just brunettes? Is hair colour really that important?

#WR: I am not saying I don't get attracted to women with other hair colour but if I’m really, really honest it’s always been brunettes that make my heart skip. Everyone has a ‘type’ don’t they?!

LC: What have you got to offer said ‘Hot Brunette’ other than a barrel load of confidence?

#WR: Haha – I honestly don’t have a barrel load of confidence but I felt I didn’t have any other choice - I was determined to make a change so maybe a barrel load of determination?

I guess I’d tell her I’m tall and I can help change light bulbs or something like that?!  No seriously, I like to think that I am mostly quite a positive, friendly person. Somebody who doesn't take himself too seriously and uses his imagination to do things a bit differently.

LC: What would your ideal date be if you could go anywhere in the world?

#WR: Oh blimey.... the Northwest coast of the North island of New Zealand - wooden buildings, no real street lights, views out to sea. It’s quiet and romantic but with plenty to do outdoors as well!

LC: When is your next date planned?

#WR: The dating site DoingSomething.co.uk have offered to send me on a climb over the O2 roof, pub yoga dating or kayaking down the Thames but I haven’t chosen yet – any advice or suggestions welcome!
