Manchester’s January Round-Up

5 January 2019 | Rosa Johnston-Flint

Some people think January is the gloomiest month of the year, after the sparkle of Christmas and New Year have whistled past. But the lucky people who live in or visit Manchester have plenty to look forward to in 2019. Here are five fabulous ideas to kick start your year…

The Producers, Royal Exchange
Max Bialystock used to be Broadway's top dog, but he's lost his touch. Failure after failure has left him down on his luck and he needs to make some cash – and fast! When his new accountant discovers that as a producer, a musical is more lucrative as a total failure than a hit, the pair set out to stage something so ridiculous that it closes on its opening night. With an extremely inappropriate script, a Director with a disastrous reputation and a lead that has a tendency to do his own thing, what could possibly go wrong?

Now in its fifth year, the Manchester Beer and Cider Festival celebrates Britain’s best breweries, as well as a number of specially curated international selections. Sponsored by the likes of Joseph Holt, Budvar and Westsons, the event will feature three large bars serving real ale, a Keykeg bar and a number of street food traders – so there’s plenty of opportunity to line your stomachs. With beers from a whopping 100 British breweries, over 600 ales, and gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan and alcohol-free options, everyone has a reason to raise their glass. Cheers!
