With the celebratory National Burger day falling on the tail end of August this year, it is time to pick up your napkins in honour of the great circular sandwich. Move over Americans, Liverpool’s more than capable establishments have got this!

1. Honest Burgers

Honest Burgers' ‘Liverpool’ Burger

You know it, we know it; Honest Burgers is currently hitting its stride. On the menu in Liverpool’s eatery are two specials that you need to know about. First up is the ‘Filipino’ burger which involves an assemblage of beef, cured bacon, chicharrones (pork puffs from The Curators), atchara (pickled slaw) and a banana infused ketchup.

And the second? The ‘Liverpool’ burger (Honest beef, British halloumi, salt & pepper, spring onion, sriracha mayo and lettuce) is quite the handful and definitely on the money.

Stroll into the Liverpool branch on the vibrant Bold Street (a stones throw from Chinatown) to have a taste of what we are talking about.

Where? 100 Bold Street, Liverpool, L14HY.

2. Free State Kitchen

Free State Kitchen’s garden is a home of great vibes

Next up are the mavericks at Free State Kitchen. Situated on Maryland Street, this low-key diner has a secret garden, perfect for taking the load off and enjoying some tasty bun sandwiched bites. Speaking of burgers; go for the ‘handheld’ ‘Double Delux’ or ‘Classic’ depending on the size of your appetite. Public service announcement: all burgers come with rosemary fries!

Where? No.1 Maryland St, Liverpool, L1 9DE.

3. Boss Burgers

Boss Burgers

Boss Burgers prides itself as something of a gourmet option, delivering big flavours across sit-ins or takeaway. Opt for the honey root veg quinoa burger or the Carolina Chicken Burger and definitely make sure to order some maple fries with your burger (or the parmesan truffle fries…hence the gourmet) and tuck in.

You know it’s worth your time and attention when the Just Eat rating is 5.88/6! Delicious.

Where? 171 Dunbabin Road, Liverpool, L16 7QQ.

4. Almost Famous

Almost Famous; definitely a messy eat

Now a successful chain of Northern eateries (across Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds) Almost Famous must be doing something right. The burgers are undeniably juicy (see above), packed full of prime cuts of beef, decadent creamy cheese prepped in slightly charred brioche buns.

Head to the Parr Street location for a Triple Nom (be warned, it's huge) and don’t pass on the waffle chips!

Where? 11-13 Parr Street, Liverpool, L1 4JN.
