Top Theatre of the Week in London

24 May 2019 | Billie Manning

Spotlight On: Sh!t Faced Shakespeare: The Taming of the Shrew at Leicester Square Theatre
What do I need to know? The classic tale of quarrelling sisters and cross-dressing lovers, with a twist. A cast of professionally trained Shakespearian actors present an abridged version of events with one cast member absolutely sh!t faced.
Any star spotting? The company that presents Sh!t Faced Shakespeare has become world famous and a sell-out success since forming in 2010. Regularly selling out Edinburgh and Brighton Fringe shows and repeatedly touring the UK, Australia and the US, the company itself is a growing star.
What’s the big deal? You know that feeling of accidentally getting drunker than everyone else around you, and being overwhelmingly aware of everything you say and do? Well, this show captures that feeling and makes it hilarious. As the drunk cast member bumbles around trying to remember their lines, the rest of the troupe attempts to steer them in the direction of a successful performance, often unsuccessfully.
