X Border 10k Run via @XBorder10k on Facebook

This week: 21 – 27 January

21 January 2019 | Rosa Johnston-Flint

This week starts with the infamous ‘Blue Monday’ – and you know what that means, right? Things can only get better! Check out our top picks for things to do this week – but most of all, make sure you do something nice for yourself this week ☺

Ferment Fortnight, Bristol Old Vic
Bristol’s formidable Ferment Fortnight returns, showcasing some of the finest talent in the South West. The 11-day festival will introduce the budding ideas of inspiring artists across the South West, allowing audiences to engage with work that is still being made and feedback on scratch performances by both emerging and established local theatre-makers.

All performances are £5 (or 5 for £20) unless stated otherwise, and take place at both The Weston Studio and Coopers’ Loft.

Band of Burns Tour, UK-wide
On Tuesday, the Burns Night celebrations start early, as the nostalgically beautiful Band of Burns bring their unique sound to Manchester’s Band on The Wall venue, weaving together folk traditions from Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales, and Turkey. A sure-fire way to warm your wee heart – without a drop of whisky required…
Band on the Wall is at 25 Swan Street, Manchester, Manchester, M4 5JZ

Thinking Drinkers Tour, UK-wide
…however, if you haven’t given up booze – or fancy planning something to illuminate the end of the Dry January tunnel – how do five free drinks sound? This unique comedy show takes you on the ultimate bar crawl, from the cerebral, wine-sipping symposiums of Ancient Greece via Wild West saloons, Victorian gin palaces, all the way through to the classic Great British pub. The audience will get a taste – literally – of various tipples, as Ben and Tom talk you through a potted history of pub life, and reasons to love your local.

This week, the Thinking Drinkers will be at Brighton Komedia on Thursday 24 January and Royal and Derngate from 25 – 26 January

Flo & Joan Tour, UK-wide
Nicola and Rosie Dempsey, aka Chortle and Leicester Comedy Award-winners Flo & Joan – whose songs have reached a whopping 50 million views online – are currently on tour and you can catch them at The Lowry in Salford on 24th January. The tuneful twosome are bringing an all-new hour of darkly witty ditties that cover all manner of topics, from weddings to sex robots and crisps for women.
