This week: 26 - 02 December

26 November 2018 |

Are you sitting comfortably? Good – sounds like you’re ready for our magical top picks for this week – including Christmas craft, witchcraft, fairy tales and Love Actually with a live orchestra.

The Worst Witch, UK Tour
Before You-Know-Who, there was Mildred Hubble, an ordinary girl who finds herself in an extraordinary place: a school for witches! Now in her final year, accident-prone Mildred and her classmates face their biggest adventure yet... The all-female show features magic, puppetry, original music and a cauldronful of Mildred’s unique brand of pandemonium.
The production premieres at the Royal & Derngate in Northampton before a tour including Salford, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Liverpool.

Christmas craft workshops, West End Centre in Aldershot
If you’re struggling to find the perfect Christmas decorations, why not make some? At the West End Centre in Aldershot on Saturday you can learn how to make a festive wreath for your front door, using fresh flowers and foliage. Also on Saturday: a complete introduction to needle-felting, where participants will leave with their own unique, handmade decorations. Cute.

Once Upon a Time, North Wall Arts Centre in Oxford
A lot of people think of Christmas as a fairytale time of year – so why not swap the panto interpretations for some beautiful paintings and illustrations?
Brought to the North Wall by Blackwell’s Rare Books and Zuleika Gallery, Once Upon A Time traces the visual history of fairy tales and supernatural story-telling, through the work of artists and illustrators from the 19th century to the present day.

The exhibition runs at the North Wall from 29 November until 5 January and admission is FREE.

Love Actually with live orchestra, Poole Lighthouse
Let’s face it – a lot of us have qualms about festive film favourite, Love Actually. Is it the plot? The doorstep placards? Or was it missing… a live orchestra?! We favour the latter, and think you should get yourself to the Lighthouse in Poole, where the twain shall meet in Christmassy orchestral rom-com perfection.

Friendly Fires, UK Tour
Summer 2018 has been one to remember for St Albans trio Friendly Fires. The band stepped back up to the mic this year after a hiatus of hush, reminding us all exactly why we fell in love with them in the first place. Now the boys are set to play a run of intimate UK shows in November and December – so grab your dancing shoes, it's fiesta tiiime...
