Budget and free evenings aside; the food is epic. It’s everywhere, popping up like a game of Whack-A-Mole; spanning the culinary continents, the taste buds and the movements. With recent unprecedented closures comes the inevitable rush of fresh openings. Such is the way of fast paced innovation. Vegan, Rotisserie Chinese, Masa (Mexican corn dough), classic Italian - It’s all here and won’t disappoint. Masa + Mezcal
77 Stokes Croft, Bristol BS1 3RD

Like many restaurants, Masa + Mezcal was inspired by a trip that owners, Kieran and Imogen Waite took 15 years ago to Mexico. Situated on the thriving Gloucester Road and named after corn dough; masa, and tequilas close cousin, the smoky alcohol mezcal, it’s going to be hard to return to your tex-mex meal kits after a visit to Masa + Mezcal. This Mexican Cantina utilises the small plate tapas style of service (also popular at Wapping Wharf’s Root), carving out a strong pallet with dishes such as crispy pork belly with chipotle aioli, Seabass ceviche and Seven Salt Marsh Lamb rump – all alongside an entire vegan menu, you are bound to find something you really love. Bianchis

With a somewhat old-school interior that will delight any and all Italophiles, Bianchis is named after chef’s Dom and Ben’s family surname. Based on the Italian Trattoria style of food and service, the restaurant is unpretentious, elegantly romantic and above all – delicious. Dishes are structured across categories: Cured, Raw, Antipasti, Primi and Secondi and all are reasonably priced – not to mention the sub £10 pasta of the day lunchtime deal! Woky Ko: Jing Xu

Sitting At the top of Bristol’s Park Street sits is Jing Xu, one of Woky Ko’s three popular Asian restaurant in Bristol. Jing Xu is part Chinese rotisserie and part noodle bar, serving casual food with serious taste. Jing Xu translates as ‘honouring heritage’ and does so through a plethora of options such as Hong Kong crispy pork, Salt & Pepper Squid and General Tso fried cauliflower. The Kandyan

With BBC Good Food listing Sri Lankan food as the ‘number 1 food trend to watch out for’ last year, the spotlight has been on the South Asian country. With established Bristol Sri Lankan restaurant player The Coconut Tree serving up a selection of the Sri Lanka’s street food, The Kandyan offers a more homemade feel featuring ingredients such as peppercorn, clove and mace which are grown from head chef Sam’s garden back in Sri Lanka. Whilst the curries likely can’t be easily replicated, you can book a cookery class if you so desire! Just don’t forget your lime with the Watalappan (a cream dish with palm sugar and spices and dates)! Overall, an excellent addition to the hustle of Gloucester Road.
