Top 5: Halloween Gigs In Manchester

16 September 2019 | Daniel Lovatt

The season of squeamish shuffles and screams is almost upon us. Whilst we cannot promise that you won’t be on the receiving end of some tricks this Halloween, we can promise you unequivocally that Manchester has scattered some succulent treats across the city, for you to sink your teeth into.  But, for those saints trying their very best to avoid chocolate, never fear, for these treats are just as delightful and savourable as the devil’s five-a- day, but without the calories. Who could resist? You can always rely on the nirvana of the north west to come up with the goods. Here we go, five ghoulish gigs that you can’t afford to miss this Halloween week.

Baked A la Ska at Band On The Wall
31 October

Despite the questionable pun, there is nothing dubious about the sheer tumultuous brilliance of Manchester based ska outfit Baked A la Ska. The eleven piece that boasts three singers may appear like a miscellaneous bunch of oddballs have exploded onto the local scene, taking venues into frenzied dancing and late-night parties. They’ve been described as “utterly bonkers but irresistible” by Manchester evening news. So, for fans of ska and poor puns, Band on the Wall is the place to be on all Hallows evening.

Hit & Run Halloween w/Samba b2b taiko b2b sir hiss at The Mint Lounge
31 October

For the vampires of the Halloween crowd, The Mint Lounge is hosting a naughty night event that lovers of Drum & Bass and Jungle will find irresistible. Infamous club night ‘Hit and Run’ are back to their usual antics with an appetising array of D&B and Jungle names. Headed by a 2 hour back-to-back set from Sir Hiss, Samba and Taiko, the undercard includes the likes of PARTICLE, Pete Cannon and hosts Mustafa and Sparkz.  The time has come to get your skank on.

James Morrison at O2 Apollo
31 October

Another contender for the Halloween criteria is the 2000’s star with his acoustic guitar. James Morrison catapulted into stardom with his 2006 album Undiscovered, which went platinum in the UK. Over the following years, with songs like Broken Strings and You Give Me Something, The mid 20’s boy from the West Midlands was even referred to as the "British Stevie Wonder” with his fresh, soulful voice.  After no album release for eleven years, Morrison returns with fourth album You’re Stronger Than You Know, which, if judging by his prior work, is sure to capture the hearts off the Apollo audience.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark at O2 Apollo
1 November

Synth pop sensations OMD first developed their worldwide fan base in the 80’s with beloved hits Enola Gay and Electricity amongst countless others. They’ve sold over 40 million records worldwide, and whilst most subjects of success stories would put their feet up and see out the proceeding decades, OMD released an album in 2010 History of Modern and boom, they were back! This decade, OMD have been on a rampage releasing 3 more albums and 2 live albums up until 2017. Most recently, a new single Don’t Go in 2019. To see one of the best synth pop bands to ever do it blasting old bangers and new favourites, the O2 Apollo is the place to see it unfold on 1 November.

Warmduscher at The White Hotel
2 November

A final ghastly gig that cheekily falls on 2 November. In Halloween week, South London supergroup (of sorts) Warmduscher will shake the very foundations of Salford’s dirtiest venue The White Hotel with their new singles Midnight Dipper and Big Wilma, as well as live renditions of their 2018 album Whale City.  Made up of members from Fat White Family and Paranoid Londonhave hit up on a truly distinctive sound, and gig-goers will embrace the psychedelic sick puppies with open arms.
