Stephanie Brandhuber

We’re nearing the end of September soon which can only mean one thing – Oktoberfest! If you’re feeling bratwurst-envy thinking about all those Germans chugging on pils and scoffing down sausages, fear not for our great city is giving Munich a run for its money. London’s got a whole line-up of great Oktoberfest events, so grab your lederhosen, dust off your novelty stein and join in on the beer-drinking and wurst-eating fun.

German Gymnasium
Located in the heart of King’s Cross, this Grade II listed building from 1865 was once the meeting spot for the German Gymnastics Society, a sporting association established in London in 1861 by Ernst Ravenstein. Swapping balance beams for bratwursts, luxury restaurant group D&D have transformed this former sports hall into a temple of taste and elegance. The menu features a host of German delicacies and, between now and October 2nd, the German Gymnasium will be serving up a special Oktoberfest Terrace Menu which includes an impressive variety of beers and sausages, as well as Schweinshaxen (pork knuckles), and Leberkas (Bavarian meat loaf). Sehr gut!

The German Gymnasium is located at King's Blvd, London N1C 4BU. To view their menu, visit them online.

Oktober Feast
For fantastisch fun and food, get down to Oktober Feast in Canada Water where Hawker House has curated a list of over 50 different brews to delight your tastebuds. On top of all this, you have the option to buy a World Cup Final of Beer tasting ticket for two to share, which gives you two ‘Ein Steins’ to kick off and 20 ¼ pint beer tastes from a world-class 11-a-side line-up.

This lively basement bar is a wonderful modernist take on a Bavarian Bierkeller.
