Top 5: Places to Celebrate Pancake Day 2017 in London

23 February 2017 | Belphoebe New

Ah the humble pancake. With simple ingredients and seemingly endless versatility, it’s no wonder that they’re one of the most popular options for a hungover breakfast or a boozy brunch. On 28 February it’s Shrove Tuesday, historically the traditional feasting and gorging day before the start of Lent. Whether you’re going to have a frugal 40 days afterwards or you’re planning to feast on pancakes forever more, we’ve picked out some of the best events and famed pancake providers where you can indulge this Shrove Tuesday.

Pancakes at All Star Lane

Making your own pancakes can be fun, but with a possible flipping disaster, is it really worth the risk? The All Star Bowling lanes are serving up a delicious duo of pancakes this Shrove Tuesday, including the Banoffee Baller with caramelised bananas, whipped cream and dark chocolate sauce, and The Sweet Salt and Pop Stacker, topped with homemade caramel, smoked sea salt, whipped cream and crunchy popcorn. Feeling hungry yet?

All Star Lanes have branches in Bayswater, Brick Lane, Holborn and Stratford. Find out more here.

Where The Pancakes Are

This London Bridge restaurant is here to ensure that you’re not pancake less on Pancake Day. Serving up everything from the American inspired pancake with smoked streaky bacon, maple syrup and blueberries to the Hummingbird with cinnamon poached pineapple and toasted coconut flakes, the flavours are diverse, uniquely paired and most importantly, delicious. There are even gluten-free and vegan pancake options so that everyone can get involved with the fun.

The Breakfast Club

The undisputed Kings of breakfast and brunch, The Breakfast Club are certainly pulling out all the stops for Pancake Day. Between 20-28 February they’ll have a special pancake menu with an incredible selection including triple chocolate, fudge and mallow, lemon meringue, and kale and pickled slaw toppings. If you want to take it a step further, join in on their pancake challenge on Shrove Tuesday – if you can eat 12 pancakes in one go it’s on the Breakfast Club, but if you can’t you pay the full £20, with all profits going to charity.

My Old Dutch

There’s nowhere better (or busier) than a pancake house on Shrove Tuesday. The undisputed runaway favourite is My Old Dutch, which has branches in Kensington, Holborn and Chelsea. Their pancakes are truly extravagant – relish in a malteaser topped pancake sprinkled with chocolate sauce or smoked bacon, chicken and cheese. Or you know, perhaps a fruit salad pancake for a healthier option.

Queen of Hoxton/Book Club Pancake Day Event

Don’t spend your Shrove Tuesday scraping pancake batter off your kitchen wall. Instead, spend it on a rooftop in Shoreditch and help yourself to a truly delicious array of pancake flavours, from the whisky maple syrup pulled pork pancakes to peanut butter pancakes with chocolate and fresh cream. That sorts out both your main and dessert right?
