Hit the town with your nearest and dearest for V-Day

Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no stopping Valentine’s Day from coming around each February 14th. Check out our guide to the best date night ideas in Manchester, for music lovers, cinephiles and those simply wanting a dance.

For music lovers
Head down to the People’s History Museum on 14 February for a night of love, as the indie band Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly celebrate the museum’s 10th birthday. This alternative V-Day gig will take place in the atmospheric Engine Hall and is a chance to catch the band as they celebrate their own 15-year anniversary! Labelled a Love Letter to the PHM, expect love to be the hot topic on Sam Duckworth’s lips throughout this intimate set.

If your relationship was kicked off in the smoking area of 42’s and Small Boneshas, at one point, been ‘your song’ then be sure to see Courteeners return to Albert Hall on 15 February. The Manchester band are performing a matinee and an evening show at the iconic venue on the Saturday after V-Day. You’ll also find a Couteeners After Party at 42’s around the corner, perfect for some nostalgic reflection on your former years as young lovers.

For film fans

A secret location in Manchester city centre is receiving a romantic make-over this year, paving the way for Project Pop-Ups’ Romantic Day on 15 February. Receive a red rose on arrival and sit in an immersive date night spot to enjoy the romantic classics of PS I Love Youor The Notebook. Both films have a matinee and evening screening, and tasty food and cocktails will be available to purchase on the day!
Project Pop-Ups’ Romantic Day at a Secret Location takes place 15 February between 12-9pm. Click here for tickets.
Another top spot for a date – Altrincham’s Everyman cinema will be showing the 1990 classic Ghost in a one-off, romantic screening on 14 February. Catch the iconic pottery scene featuring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore whilst sinking into Everyman’s comfy sofa seating.
Ghost at Everyman Altrincham takes place 14 February at 8pm. Click here for tickets.
For foodies
You won’t struggle to find a selection of romantic restaurants in Manchester city centre and beyond, but how about using Valentine’s Day to try out somewhere new and exciting? 2019 saw Mana receive the city’s first Michelin star since the mid-70s, and their (obviously) delicious menu will play host to the most romantic evening out. Their set menus can reach the £150 mark (per person!) so don’t be afraid to splash the cash in the name of love.
Mana can be found on 42 Blossom Street, M4 6BF and will be open from 7pm on 13-15 February.

This immersive dining experience is completely Motown & Soul themed, pairing a delicious three-course meal with drinks and dancing. The dinner offers the perfect chance to sit down a chat, whilst live music will encourage you and your (potential) lover to get up and dance. Just, promise us you won’t get awkward when they perform Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On

Fancy something a little bit less intense than a three-course meal? A trip to Flight Club makes the perfect first date for February 14th.
