Where to Drink: Festive Cocktails in Manchester

6 December 2019 | Maisy Farren

Spotlight on: The Botanist
78 Deansgate, Manchester, M3 2FW

The Botanist might be a UK-wide chain, but it’s fabulous decor and exciting cocktails make it one of Culture Calling’s favourite cocktail bars. The Deansgate Botanist has already had its festive make-over, with wreaths, baubles and tinsel taking over the Potting Shed, Classroom and Conservatory seating areas, as well as adding a cosy touch to the main bar area.

We’re sure your Christmas night out requires more than festive decor, of course, and luckily The Botanist have delivered with sumptuous seasonal specials! They have as many as 10 amazing drinks on their Seasonal Showstoppers menu, including regular favourites, warming beverages and completely original cocktails! Enjoy a Mulled Wine or Mulled Cider with the option of a shot of Sloe Gin or a shot of the alpine spirit: Moose! Those with a sweet tooth can devour a Baileys infused Unicorn Hot Chocolate or even a Chocolate Orange Aperol Spitz, whilst those looking for a kick might want a Hazelnut Espresso Martini. It doesn’t stop there, and you can try out a Black Forest Mojito for that ultimate retro dessert-come-drink, or Pumpkin Spiced Latte warmed with rum!

The best of the rest:
Almost Famous
100-102 High Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester, M4 1HP
Unit 2, Great Northern, Peter Street, Manchester M3 4EJ

What? Funky burger place with exciting food and cocktail menu!
Where? You’ll find one up some sneaky stairs in the Northern Quarter and another inside the Great Northern leisure complex.
Why? These guys put candy canes in burgers- they’re obviously going to excel at excessive festive cocktails. Try their Scoops Ahoy for a delectable mix off vodka, crème de menthe and candy canes!

Sunset by Australasia
1 The Avenue, Manchester, M3 3AP

What? One of MCR’s newest (and most aesthetically pleasing) cocktail bars.
Where? Opposite the Mulberry in Spinningfields.
Why? This beach themed bar might not be your go-to for cosy, wintery drinks, however they’re serving one tasty Xmas special this winter! Their Mince Pie Martini is a perfectly sweet and strong tipple, whilst the Tiramisu Espresso Martini on the main menu has Chrimbo written all over it.

20 Stories
No 1 Spinningfields, 1 Hardman Square, Spinningfields, Manchester, M3 3EB

What? Sky bar with restaurant and wonderful terrace, offering far-reaching views across the city.
Where? On the 19th floor of a towering office block in Spinningfields.
Why? The 20 Stories terrace has already had an influx of festive cheer, with wreaths and decorations strung up around the whole bar. They’re offering a delicious fig-based cocktail for a touch of luxury, or a frosty Snow-conut mocktail!
