Where to Drink: Real Ale in Manchester

7 February 2020 | Maisy Farren

Spotlight on: Sandbar
120 Grosvenor Street, Manchester, M1 7HL

Sandbar is one of Manchester best kept secrets, offering a unique spot to enjoy craft beers and pizzas just off Oxford Road. Originally a German and Belgian beer bar that opened in 1996, Sandbar has been a popular spot for students and locals in years gone by. They even won the Manchester Food and Drink Festival’s 2019 award for best Craft Ale Bar in 2019! The bar only ever stocks bars from local Manchester breweries, unless hosting one of their many Beer Festivals when they import beers from further flung locations. Their industrial era-location offers plenty of nooks and crannies to bagsy a table in, and you’ll find regular quiz nights held throughout the week. Don’t forget to try one of their amazing pizzas during your visit and be sure to enjoy a varied selection of real ales!
