Where to Eat: Best late-night food spots

9 April 2019 | Billie Manning

London is well on its way to becoming a city that never sleeps. Whether you’ve been out dancing ‘til dawn or you’ve just been struck with the desire for midnight meal, here are the best places for some late-night dining.

Duck & Waffle
Ever wanted to chow down on a beautifully caramelised duck confit at 4am while watching the sun rise sleepily over the city from 500ft high? If you fancy a decadent midnight snack, then Duck & Waffle is the one for you. And if you get there past 6am, you can get started on their breakfast menu, including their delicious duck eggs en cocotte with mushrooms and Gruyère.

110 Bishopsgate, London EC2N 4AY. Open 24 hours
 Somine Turkish
Somine used to be open all hours, until new licensing laws forced them to have a closing time. So they did what any reasonable late-night restaurant would do, and decided to start closing at 5am and opening again two hours later at 7am. The restaurant retains a homely, family-friendly vibe late into the night, where you can sit around and chat while nibbling on – or devouring – a  big pile of falafel with hummus.

131 Kingsland High St, Dalston, London E8 2PB. Open until: 2am Sunday – Thursday, 5am Friday – Saturday

Voodoo Ray’s Dalston
Perfectly located for a visit after getting good and sweaty in Dalston Superstore next door, Ray’s does pizza by the slice, the ideal post-boogie snack. Whether it’s 11pm or 3am, Ray’s is ready to greet you, warm and raucous and loud and with absolutely nobody judging you for dropping all that mozzarella down your top. Try their Queen Vegan with artichokes and signature green sauce alongside a can of Beavertown from the fridge to keep you going. Their locations in Peckham and Shoreditch don't go on quite as late, but are still good for a just-before-midnight snack.

95 Kingsland High St, London E8 2PB. Open until: midnight Monday – Wednesday, 1am Thursday, 3am Friday – Saturday, 11pm Sunday

Brick Lane Beigel Bake
If you’ve been out in East London and you need something hot, cheap and very very cheerful, stop into the Beigel Bake on your way home. Of course, we'd recommend the salt beef, but if you're on a budget, you’ll literally only be set back 30p for a warm, buttery, golden bagel. Repeat: thirty of your English pence. Plus, it’s literally always open, so it’s reliable bagel goodness at any time of day or night.

159 Brick Ln, London E1 6SB. Open 24 hours

Bob Bob Ricard
For a rather fancy late-night stop out, head over to Bob Bob Ricard, the Anglo-Russian restaurant in Mayfair known for its amazing food and the buttons placed on every table which, when pressed, get champagne brought to your table. Bob Bob Ricard is open until 1am on weekends, so if dinner feels like it was really just too long ago, head down and treat yourself to some oysters, or tuck into their famous 'chocolate bomb'. Just be careful with that ‘press-for-champagne’ button if you’ve already had a few…
