Where to Eat: Sausages in London

Billie Manning

All of these restaurants have Big Sausage Energy.

Spotlight on: X-Upper
This new restaurant joining the throng on Upper Street claims that sausages are the new burgers – only better. And nestled between several big boys of the burger world – Five Guys, Nando’s – they better hope that’s true. Unlike many of the other sausage-focused joints in London, this is a proper sit-down, table-service, dinner restaurant kind of place, with low lighting and comfy seating.
There are six dishes on offer, with one of six different gourmet sausages from five different countries starring in each of them, accompanied by a bread-based side. You can enjoy the Swiss Olma, a bratwurst served with purple mustard, pickled red cabbage and milk and honey sourdough, or the Italian Romagna, a chicken and pork sausage with herby sauce and yellow  pepper salsa. Alternatively, keep it tradish with an English Cumberland with – of course – ketchup and mayo. That’ll be beetroot ketchup and horseradish mayo, though - this is a classy establishment.
