It’s that time of year again folks and the Christmas Market Season is upon us! If you’re looking to stock up on some independent gifts, pick up some decorative Christmas baubles or simply devour a steaming cup of mulled wine then these traditional German Markets are for you.

Whilst you may be inclined to flock to Manchester to enjoy their many city centre Xmas Markets, did you know that one of Europe’s most popular Christmas Markets can be found close by in Chester? Just a one-hour drive (or one hour on the train from Manchester Victoria), Chester is well worth a visit to get you into the festive spirit! Here you’ll find 70 German Market style cabins filled with independent sellers, hearty food vendors and cosy bars. The market, found in the historic city’s famous Town Hall Square, sits beneath an impressive 40ft Christmas tree and the beautiful Chester Cathedral. Head down on Thursday 21 November to catch the switch on of the city’s Christmas lights and stock up on stocking fillers! 
 
The Chester Christmas Market will be open 16 November – 22 December 2019.

Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market

For an authentic German Market experience take a trip to the city of Birmingham, where you’ll find the largest authentic Christmas Market outside of Germany or Austria! Rows and rows of over 80 cabin stalls fill the beautiful Victoria Square, along with merry-go-rounds for children and plenty of bars for mum and dad. Be sure to celebrate the German culture that paved the way for the Christmas Markets we know and love by trying some bratwurst, schnitzels, pretzels and stolen, all washed down with a weissbeer or spicy glühwein! The market features a central bandstand with a packed schedule of festive performances, so you can listen to some traditional Christmas tunes whilst you browse. The market is directly adjacent to the city’s popular Christmas Craft Market so come prepared to do all your Xmas shopping at once! 
 
The Frankfurt Christmas Market will be open 7 November – 23 December 2019.

Step right into the world of The Night Before Christmas with a visit to Stratford-upon-Avon’s popular Victorian Christmas Market. This annual event has a Dickensian theme and offers plenty to keep all the family entertained for a festive day out. You’ll find traditional gift and craft markets trading 19th century style wares, live performers and musicians and even vintage fairground rides for kids. The streets will no doubt be filled with the nostalgic smell of roasting chestnuts and cinnamon spiked wine, truly getting you in the mood for Crimbo in the first weekend in December. 
 
Stratford-upon-Avon’s Victorian Christmas Market will be open from 6 – 8 December 2019.

The city of Winchester is filled with Christmas cheer throughout November and December, where the Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market lights up the busy city centre.
