
Theatre Highlights
Established in 2006, Bloomsbury Festival is a wonderful, creative explosion of arts, culture and science. For ten days each October, the streets, parks, museums, galleries, laboratories, public and private buildings of this vibrant cultural quarter play host for over 100 events.
THEATRE HIGHLIGHTS
Our theatre programme for 2023 includes a programme of new writing alongside a wide range of professional and local theatre makers, including the welcome return of two British South Asian companies, Mukul and Ghetto Tigers and Tamarind Theatre. We are also delighted to welcome Japanese physical theatre company tarinainanika to Bloomsbury, with both a production and an acting workshop.

Breath-taking physical theatre from Japan, inspired by the life and work of a little-known painter. Rey Camoy is a gut-wrenching love song to beauty - the kind worth living and dying for.
IF WALLS COULD SING! THE GOOD COMPANIONS: 14 & 15 Oct 7.30pm
Exploring Bloomsbury’s fascinating history through the story of one house - 49 Great Ormond Street - and the people who lived there, using a lively combination of narration and vintage songs.
RHUBARB AND CUSTARD - STUPID AND BRAVE THEATRE: Sun 15 Oct 7pm
A one-woman show about grief and jazz piano, with original music. The show is about what it means to love someone who both hurt you profoundly and made you who you are.
THE LIFE OF MEENA KUMARI, BOLLLYWOOD STAR, MUKUL AND GHETTO TIGERS: 20 Oct 6.30pm
Exploring the dark inner life of one of India’s most loved Bollywood icons, Meena Kumari and how it contrasted with the glamour the public saw on the silver screen.
THE TWO HEADED BIRD - TAMARIND THEATRE COMPANY: 21 Oct 3.30pm & 7.30pm
A young person’s adventure to find a mythical bird invites danger and intrigue. Theatre storytelling with puppetry, music, song and dance. In English with Bengali and Hindi, suitable for all the family.
