Game Boy Modding at Four Quarters
A beginner-friendly, hands-on retro gaming workshop at Four Quarters Arcade Bar.
Grab a beer and spend a very different evening building your very own custom Game Boy Colour.
The workshop is beginner-friendly and designed for retro gaming fans, nostalgic millennials, collectors, makers, parents, in fact anyone looking for a more hands-on, low-tech night out in London. It’s for people who love nostalgia, tinkering or simply want to try something different. Inspired by the Game Boy modding workshops of Akihabara, this London experience brings the same spirit of creativity and retro tech culture to the Four Quarters Pub for a truly unique night out.
The idea behind the event is simple: in a world increasingly shaped by AI, automation, and always-on digital experiences, there is something valuable about slowing down, working with your hands, and reconnecting with physical hardware. Game Boy modding does just this, its creative, practical, nostalgic, and surprisingly calming. You will explore the history of handheld gaming, try out a range of modded retro consoles (including Nintendo, Game Gear and modern Retro Consoles), and then build a fully working Game Boy Colour customised to your own style. Choose your shell colour, button colours, and finishing touches, then assemble your console with step-by-step guidance. By the end of the workshop, you will leave with your own custom-built Game Boy Colour, ready to play, including one game to take home with you.
