JW3 New Home for Mitzvah Day!
Mitzvah Day enters new chapter with JW3 as its future home.
JW3 and Mitzvah Day have announced a new chapter in their long-standing relationship, with JW3 set to become the institutional home of Mitzvah Day, the UK’s largest faith-led day of social action., Subject to final formal sign-off by both organisations’ trustees, Mitzvah Day will stop operating as a separate organisation in coming months. The move which has wholehearted support from the JLC, the Board of Deputies, and key funders - marks an exciting moment for two of the Jewish community’s most widely recognised cross-communal initiatives. It builds on the phenomenal success of Mitzvah Day while enabling it to retain its distinctive identity, community-wide reach and Jewish-led, outward-facing spirit, with a significant reduction in costs to the community.
Founded by Laura Marks CBE in 2005, Mitzvah Day has, over the past two decades, become a pillar of the Jewish calendar and a powerful expression of Jewish values in action. Each year, tens of thousands of volunteers take part in projects across synagogues, schools, youth groups, charities, interfaith networks, businesses and local communities, supporting people and causes across the UK and far beyond.
Mitzvah Day began as a project initiated by Marks and incubated by JCC for London - the organisation that later became JW3 - before becoming an independent charity in 2008. This next chapter therefore represents both a reconnection and an evolution of that relationship, creating new opportunities for Mitzvah Day to flourish in the years ahead and to reach still further and deeper, while remaining true to the values and community that shaped it. Mitzvah Day will retain its name, identity and community-wide character. JW3 will work closely with Laura Marks and an advisory group including Mitzvah Day and JW3 trustees to support the successful delivery of Mitzvah Day 2026 and beyond.
The announcement comes during a period of growth for JW3. As the centre marks its 13th anniversary and Bar Mitzvah year, it is expanding its role as a national platform for Jewish culture, conversation, community-building and civic engagement.
