An unmissable, multi-award-winning show featuring beautiful table top puppetry and cinematic shadow play.

Kinder made in collaboration with Little Angel Theatre, is a new show aimed at teenagers. The story focuses on the one little girl’s adventure, as she is evacuated, on a Kindertransport train from Prague to Margate, to escape persecution just before the start of the Second World War. The story draws inspiration from the real life Czech Kindertransport event, where Czech-Jewish children were evacuated to seaside towns, across the UK. The Czech Kindertransport was pioneered by British man Nicholas Winton who saved 669 children.

Young heroine Babi crosses Europe on this epic journey; from bon bons in Germany to the sea in Margate, Babi discovers how even tiny acts of kindness can change the course of a person’s life. Joyful, moving and poignant, Kinder features beautiful table top puppetry and cinematic shadow play, as Babi tries to assemble the parts of her broken identity, to find peace in her future.

Kinder is a multi-award-winning show from puppetry and visual theatre company Smoking Apples. Inviting the audience to take a seat inside an immersive set, the story unfolds through a series of playful hatches and openings.  At a time when the world’s refugee crises, from Syria to Ukraine, are at the forefront of our minds and the news, Kinder highlights the stories of real people, those who must flee persecution and their homes and the kindness of those who help them.

Smoking Apples has created a self-sufficient, self-contained set that can go into all settings, including non-theatre venues such as schools, to bring this tale to life. Kinder opens on 29 August – 3 September at Little Angel Theatre, London and continues with a UK tour until 11 November.
