Receives world premiere at BFI Flare, London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival

Luke Wills’s feature film debut about London-born drag queen Lady Camden receives its world premiere at this year’s BFI Flare, where it screens as the closing night gala on Saturday 23rd March.

Lady Like is the intimate story of London-born, San Francisco-based runner-up of season 14 of RuPaul's Drag Race, Lady Camden (aka Rex Wheeler), as she becomes an international drag superstar. Along the way the film investigates how drag and the performing arts saved Rex from a traumatic childhood giving him hope, purpose, and community in a world that otherwise offered none.  BFI Flare London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival runs 13th to 24th March.

London-born, San Francisco-based drag queen Lady Camden is catapulted into the spotlight when she becomes a contestant on season 14 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. As she struggles to manage the demands of her newfound fame, she must come to terms with a traumatic childhood in Camden that drove her to seek joy, fantasy, and escape through the performing arts. The film also features Jeanne Smyth, Mara Guevara, Maya Chirstou, Nina West, Ben Warner and Josh Cook.

This is the first feature film by Luke Willis, whose previous credits include the shorts Pool Boy, (2021) and The Summer House (2019) which have both screened at BFI Flare. He also produced the film along with Cookie Walukas (Saleh and the Spades, Black is King).
