Disney+ has released the first-look images from the highly anticipated, brand-new original series “The Full Monty”. From the makers of the iconic BAFTA-award-winning movie, this eight-part series will premiere in the UK on Disney+ in June.
To celebrate the upcoming release the fabulous Prince Charles Cinema in London will screen the original film (in 35mm!) on May 10th. The special screening event will also feature a Q&A with writer & creator Simon Beaufoy hosted by The Big Issue’s Adrian Lobb.
The Full Monty follows a group of unemployed working-class stiffs from the North of England who form a Chippendales-style group to try and earn money. A heartfelt and fiercely funny tale, the movie was widely recognised in the awards circuit, going on to win the ACADEMY AWARD® for Best Music, as well as Best Film and Best Actor for Robert Carlyle at the BAFTA Film Awards.
This special screening celebrates the upcoming launch of “The Full Monty”, a brand-new series which will follow the original band of brother, 25 years on, as they navigate the post-industrial city of Sheffield, as well as society’s crumbling healthcare, education, and employment sectors. Uncovering what happened to the gang after they put their kit back on, while exploring their brighter, sillier and more desperate momentss. It will also highlight how the fiercely funny world of these working-class heroes – still residing in Sheffield – has changed in the intervening decades. The original cast will reprise their roles in this new series as well as a new cast of children and grandchildren of their returning film characters.
