Highlights of events and exhibitions for visitors this June to the museums.

Highlights for June include:

The Van de Veldes: Greenwich, Art and the Sea - 2 March 2023 – 14 January 2024 - Queen’s House, Greenwich

Explore the work of Willem van de Velde the Elder and Willem van de Velde the Younger the most important and influential marine painters of the seventeenth century. This exhibition reveals how the family’s legacy as renowned émigré artists transformed British visual culture and inspired future generations of artists including J.M.W. Turner.

Windrush 75 - 22, 24 June 2023 National Maritime Museum

This June marks 75 years since HMT Empire Windrush arrived in Britain with more than 800 passengers from the Caribbean on board.  The National Maritime Museum and the Caribbean Social Forum are hosting two special Windrush Day events, showcasing Caribbean culture and the legacy of the Windrush generation in the UK today.

World Oceans Day - 10 June 2023, 11.00 – 16.00

World Oceans Day is a family-friendly celebration of our blue planet, featuring live performances, expert talks and science demonstrations, workshops and games.  Look out for our pod of fabulous merfolk for ocean-inspired facepainting. Scales, coral or little fish – you decide! Experience the energy of VOU an amazing contemporary dance company from Fiji and listen and learn with talks delivered by experts  from the Manta Trust, and British Antarctic Survey.
