Zabludowicz Collection is delighted to announce a major new exhibition, All Crescendo, No Reward, alongside the continuation of the Invites series with a solo show by Ding Shilun, marking the start of a year of programming to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the Collection.
All Crescendo, No Reward: 28 September–17 December 2023

All Crescendo, No Reward is an exhibition of works from the Zabludowicz Collection that explores the formation and re-formation of subjecthood and objecthood. It is structured around three major moving-image installations by Matt Copson, Oliver Laric and Frances Stark. While they are distinct in atmosphere and character, the works are underscored by themes of birth, death, and the passing of time. They also share an ambitious and playful use of animation, music and staging devices. Each artist blurs the boundaries between contemporary art and other cultural spheres and periods, drawing inspiration from opera, neoclassical and baroque sculpture, hip-hop and children’s cartoons.
The notion of ‘the loop’ is central to the show, with the circulation of images and ideas felt across the exhibition. Contained within the narratives and imagery of the works is a constant flux between desire and the frustration of that desire. Installed in the Main Hall are sculptures by Lynda Benglis, Walead Beshty, Ida Ekblad, Matias Faldbakken, Nikita Gale, Isa Genzken, Guyton\Walker, Mike Nelson and Nicole Wermers, selected to be in dialogue with the work of Matt Copson.
Invites: Ding Shilun 28 September–19 November 2023
From 28 September–19 November, Ding Shilun will take over the Invites space. Influenced by Chinese folklore and contemporary comics, Shilun uses illustration and painting to build mythological narratives depicting the absurdity of everyday life. Shilun’s installation includes the artist’s newest series of watercolour paintings alongside a site-specific wall mural. The Invites programme is dedicated to solo exhibitions by UK-based artists without UK commercial gallery representation.
