Taking place from 28 September – 19 October, this year's festival of words in the idyllic Shoreham-by-Sea looks back at the impact of the radical writers, artists and thinkers living in Sussex in the early 20th Century, who were so influential on what is known as 'Modernism'.
Events range from talks with established journalists and broadcasters - including Peter-Owen Jones and a satirical play, The Teen People written by Mark Gatiss and Simon Messingham - to exciting new writers such as Nicholas Royle, author of An English Guide to Birdwatching and Lewes poet Grace Nichols. There are creative writing opportunities, and a debate with political commentator Rafael Behr on how to negotiate the complex blurring of fact and fiction in the news.
There’s something for the kids, too, including a Michael Morpurgo play and a story telling session, and a Poetry and Short Story Slam competition. The final event will take place on Thursday 19 October; a cracking evening with Attila the Stockbroker and Murray Lachlan Young.
