A comedic autobiographical exploration of polyamory with puppetry and spoken word.
Created in response to the often overdramatic and unrealistic portrayals of non-monogamy in the media, Jess Andrews’ autobiographical solo show offers a candid, comedic, and deeply personal look at her first year navigating polyamory. Combining storytelling, spoken word, and projected data from dating apps,
I Met All My Friends on Dating Apps shines a light on the complexity and joy of open relationships. From re-enacting disastrous dates with questionable sock puppets to sharing tender first kisses and moments of unexpected intimacy, this honest performance invites audiences to reconsider what love and connection can truly mean.
Writer and performer Jess Andrews said, "It was important to me to give an unexaggerated narrative of polyamory, so that non-monogamous folk see their experiences reflected and validated, and in turn might be inspired to share their own stories. Common representations of polyamory tend to diminish the richness and nuance of the non-monogamous relationships that I see around me. While parts of the show will feel familiar to anyone who has been on a dating app, I hope that while monogamous audiences laugh with me, they also gain a different perspective on how we can experience love.”
I Met All My Friends on Dating Apps opens in Brighton before heading to Cambridge and Bristol.
