One Man. One Whale. Guided by the Fates. Driven by Obsession.
The Tower Theatre Company presents the final production in its summer season, a "visceral" adaptation of Melville's epic novel Moby Dick, adapted by Paul Graves and Angharad Ormond with music by Colin Guthrie from Wednesday 2nd July – Sunday 6th July 2025.
With a cast of 24, including a band of 6 musicians, this innovative and imaginative interpretation balances the very male cast of sailors with a female chorus representing The Furies, who play many of the characters and also represent the whale herself.
Nantucket, 1839. The ‘Pequod’ embarks on a fateful voyage under the formidable Captain Ahab, a man consumed by his quest for vengeance against the White Whale who tore off his leg. Through the eyes of our narrator, Ishmael, we join the ship’s diverse crew as they plunge into perilous waters, relentlessly chasing the infamous Moby Dick.
Blending puppetry, live music and dynamic physical theatre, this gripping production explores timeless themes of trauma, obsession and prejudice, examining humanity’s fraught relationship with nature, and transforming Melville’s epic into a visceral theatrical experience. At its core lies the question; “How does trauma shape us?”.
