A dazzling double bill of beautiful, exhilarating dance as part of Blackpool’s Capital of Dance Festival.
Celebrated choreographer ROSIE KAY will dance back into Blackpool Grand Theatre on Saturday 21 June with A THING OF BEAUTY – a dazzling double bill of beautiful, exhilarating dance from her exciting new company K2CO.
This fabulous feast of dance is ‘full of honesty, beauty and joy’ and will be showcased at The Grand in June as an inspiring prelude to Blackpool’s Capital of Dance Festival in July. It features two of Rosie’s most iconic works – the autobiographical Adult Female Dancer which she performs solo, and Fantasia which brings together three female performers to celebrate beauty
Created roughly a year apart, Rosie Kay says the pieces in A Thing of Beauty share common ground in questioning the role of a female dancer – how women are viewed by others and how women view and express themselves…
Fantasia is a thrilling tour-de-force performed by three exquisite female dancers with music by Vivaldi, Beethoven and Bach. Premiered in 2019 and nominated as the Best Dance in that year by The Guardian, Fantasia is inspired by the study of female beauty – what it has meant throughout the ages and into the present day.
Adult Female Dancer was nominated for the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards Best Female Performance (Dance) in 2022 and is Kay’s first and only autobiographical solo work. With recorded words and an eclectic score featuring music by Patti Smith, Ennio Morricone, Brian Eno and Bach, this ‘moving, honest and ultimately life-affirming’ piece sees Rosie wear her heart on her sleeve and put herself centre stage.
