St Cyprian’s Church, Glentworth Street,

London NW1 6AX

Vivaldi: Gloria from Gloria in D
Elgar: Weary Wind of the West
Lili Boulanger: D’un jardin clair
Peter Fender: 'Hope' is the thing with feathers (première)
Elgar: From the Bavarian Highlands 1-3
Lili Boulanger: Psalm 130 ‘From the Depths’

A wonderfully eclectic mix of great choral music from across the centuries and nations. The main work, Lili Boulanger’s setting of Psalm 130 (‘From the depths I cry to you, O Lord’), is one of the great works of early 20th century choral music. Boulanger creates a wonderful range of moods and sound colours in this unmissable work, dedicated to the memory of her much loved father.

From the depths of the Boulanger we have contrasts in her own beautiful piano miniature about a peaceful garden, Peter Fender’s new setting of Emily Dickinson’s poem about hope, the wonderful optimism of the Vivaldi Gloria, the immense fun and repose of Elgar’s Bavarian Highlands holiday-inspired songs and the beauty of his song about the west wind – we really go through the emotions in this concert!
